Rising Above Weight Struggles

By Coach Sharm and Team

I crossed paths with “Dr. Kelly Lim” (not her real name for privacy) two years ago. A gynaecologist by profession, she was caring for many others but had forgotten to care for herself.

Working with Kelly was a true inspiration. Her tenacity and determination were unmatched. And I felt privileged she chose me to coach her, to guide her on this journey to health.

Kelly’s struggle was unique, yet familiar. Hours spent in surgeries and consultations left her drained, with little time or energy for self-care. Despite her extensive medical knowledge, applying that wisdom to her personal health became a struggle.

But Kelly wasn’t about to give up. She longed to be fit and energetic, capable of taking on her demanding profession without compromising on her personal wellbeing.

With my Body Thrive Academy programme, we set out to change Kelly’s life. Together, we moved through the three stages of the programme, gradually transforming her lifestyle.

In the Foundation Stage, Kelly armed herself with health knowledge, leaned on the support of our community for accountability, and nurtured her discipline.

Entering the Transformation Stage, she learned about her metabolism and hormones, gained control over her cravings, and began nourishing her body with the right nutrition.

And in the Consistency Stage, she embraced quick daily workouts, adjusted her mindset towards health and habits, and began experimenting with her newfound knowledge.

This journey was anything but straightforward. Yet, Kelly’s transformation was astounding. Today, she embodies a healthy lifestyle that not only supports her demanding career but also gives her a sense of joy and fulfilment.

If you are facing a similar struggle, here are five tips straight from my coaching playbook:

  1. Learn about your body. The more you know, the better you can take care of it.
  2. Create a support network. It will help keep you accountable on your journey.
  3. Keep your goals in sight. Small, consistent steps often lead to big changes.
  4. Understand your cravings. Learn to distinguish between hunger and emotional eating.
  5. Get a coach. Having someone who has been there, done that, can guide you on the right path.

I had the privilege of guiding Kelly through each of these steps. While I was there to lend a helping hand, she was the one who made the choices, took the steps, and made the change. It’s her empowerment, her success, that makes this journey meaningful.

Kelly’s story inspires me every day. It shows me the power of resilience, the strength in each of us. I hope it inspires you too. We all have it within us to lead healthier, happier lives. It’s about taking that first step.
